A Disrupted Mid-Life
In my mid 40s, I experienced the sudden onset of debilitating chronic pain and fatigue. After months of consulting specialists, undergoing blood tests, X-rays, and brain scans, I was finally diagnosed with an auto-immune condition and secondary fibromyalgia.
Alone and struggling to manage the mental and physical impact of the conditions, I felt frustrated, hopeless, and resigned to believing I would always be this way.
I was forced to give up my job, my long-term relationship broke down, and my teenage daughter became my carer.
I lived day-to-day on prescription medication, fearful of the condition and what the future held for me.
All my mid-life dreams and aspirations were disrupted, or so I thought.
The Audiobook
During yet another weekend with crippling fatigue, I was searching for an audiobook and came across Dr. David Hamilton's "How Your Mind Can Heal Your Body."
Hearing the success stories of people changing the outcomes of their illnesses, I thought maybe, just maybe, there is a way out of this.
If they can do it, then why can't I?
Of course, my mind and body were telling me differently, but I knew deep down that I had to do something.
Any hope of the beautiful mid-life I had envisioned was slipping away. I didn't want to look back and regret never trying.
The Journey
So, I decided to embark on a personal empowerment journey to focus on my wellness not my illness to change my experience with my health conditions for good.
Making the decision alone felt empowering. I'll never forget the energy and hope it gave me.
I delved further into the mind-body connection, educating myself on the influence our mind has over our body and vice-versa. However, applying what I'd learnt and reaping the benefits was the biggest challenge.
I kept trying but was getting nowhere fast!
The Solution
So, I developed my own method for realising my vision of wellness that provided consistent action without feeling overwhelmed which was mostly the problem.
I named this approach 'The PACE Micro Method' -
Purposeful Achievement with Confidence & Ease through Micro-actions based on one vision, three weeks, three life dimensions (mind-body-spirit), and three daily micro-actions. I still use the method personally today and with clients!
The Outcome
By using this method, I became not only confident but motivated as it was easy to take the action & create habits for change to unfold.
By default the pain, fatigue and other symptoms reduced, I was able to come off my prescription medication and I started to enjoy life once again!
I trained for a new career, returned to traveling, exercising, dating and socialising with friends and family.
If someone had told me before that it's possible to transform your life despite a chronic pain condition, I would never have believed them!
My Purpose
Through my own experience, I now truly believe everyone has the innate ability to reach their personal vision of wellness.
So much so that I've made it my purpose to help other women living with a fibromyalgia diagnosis or chronic health condition to experience this with ease and confidence.
I've since qualified as a Life Purpose Coach, Body Healing Coach and CPCAB accredited Breathwork Practitioner and due to complete NLP training this year to guide my work further with clients.
